The weather is turning warmer, but this is still very early for fireworks.
Sunday’s Reds-Pirates game in Pittsburgh got out of hand after Chris Archer threw a pitch behind Derek Dietrich, who had homered in his previous at-bat.
Immediately, the home-plate umpire warned both teams, which infuriated Cincinnati manager David Bell, as Archer was neither tossed nor did the Reds now have a chance at revenge.
As Bell and the umpire argued, both dugouts emptied and a familiar pushing-and-shoving (but no punching) match arose for a few minutes. Until Yasiel Puig, who had been jawing with Archer, escaped Joey Votto and a few players who were holding him back and took a run at Archer, trying to get at the standout Pirates pitcher.
He never reached Archer, but suspensions likely will be coming down.
