Award-winning actressMira Sorvinoon Wednesday dropped the bombshell that she is a date rape survivor.
“I’m a survivor of date rape. I have never said that in public, because it is impossible to share those kinds of things,” the Academy Award-winning New York native said as she broke into tears during a press conference with Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushing for stricter sexual harassment and rape-reporting laws.
“You feel shame,” she continued. “You feel like it was somehow your fault.”
Sorvino did not go into detail on the incident.
“He started massaging my shoulders, which made me very uncomfortable, and then tried to get more physical, sort of chasing me around,” Sorvino said in 2017, explaining that she was later blacklisted for turning down his advances.
Cuomo applauded Sorvino for her powerful testimony Wednesday.
“I’ve been in this room many times, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more intelligent, powerful, persuasive point than you just made — and God bless you for being so brave and courageous,” Cuomo responded during the press conference, held in the capital’s Red Room.
